PROJECT OVERVIEW

Development of a Community Park in the Northwest Region of Concord is a City Council goal, and top priority of the Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The City has partnered with Woolpert’s Charlotte office, who specializes in park planning and design, to prepare concepts and a final master plan for the property. The first step in the development of this park is to engage with members of the community through strong public participation.

Your feedback will help inform the development of a park plan which may include a broad range of amenities and services to potentially offer to the citizens at this park location.

Concord NC Northwest Park Plan Timeline

ABOUT THE PARK SITE

The park site is located at 1252 Cox Mill Road, directly north of Cox Mill Elementary School, and across the street from Cox Mill High School. The total site is about 28 acres, 16 of which can be developed with active park amenities, and 12 acres within the floodplain can be developed with more passive recreation amenities, such as greenways and trails.

During the October 11, 2020 Drop-in Workshop Meeting, residents became park planners by voting on their “top 5 indoor” and “top 5 outdoor” program elements they would like to see at the new park.  Thank you to those who provided feedback.

As we continue to seek community input and rank priority park elements, we would like for you to review the attached presentation and maps, and vote for your top 5 wishes for outdoor and indoor facilities/amenities. This information will be used to guide the site design, whereby Woolpert will create two (2) conceptual designs and present those back to the public for initial feedback, and to select a preferred alternative.

Note:  The proposed program amenities in the voter card list are a combination of strongly supported elements from the online survey, focus groups, and 2016 Comprehensive Parks & Rec. Master Plan

Post Community Meeting Summary

The City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department and Woolpert held a Drop-in Workshop Meeting on Sunday October 11, 2020.  During the informal drop-in meetings, the public had the opportunity to view project information, ask questions, provide comments, and discuss various aspects of the project with the project team. Thank you to those who provided feedback.

As we continue to seek community input and rank priority park elements, we are asking the public to review the presentation and maps shown below and vote for your top 5 wishes for outdoor and indoor facilities/amenities.  This information will be used to guide the development of two (2) conceptual site designs and present those designs back to the public for initial feedback, and to select a preferred alternative.
